Secretary Carr considers the prospects for the year very flattering. During the summer number of families have removed here for conege advantages. The bufldings and the campus are being put into firstclass condition by Superintendent MoCoy. Improvements have been made In. several of the recitation rooms.

Plans for the -new library building have been adopted, and the work of getting the funds for its construction is rapidly being completed. The bullding will be of stone, and will stand in the western part of the campus, to the southwest of the -main buliding. Several changes in the faculty have been made. James M. Dungan, who has been dean of the musical department for many years, has retired and has been succeeded by Clark Rodney Parker, of East Trumbell, Mr.

Parker graduated Franklin in 1897 and spent last year in Boston perfecting his musical education. He is popular among the students. He belongs to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. The vocal classes, choruses and harmony classes will be In his charge. Mrs.

Minnie Bruner will be in charge of the Instrumental classes, Prof. C. E. Goodell has leave of absence for one year, and will spend the time in Chicago University, working in his departmental line. His chair in history will be occupled by Augustus Raymond Hatton, of last year's class, who was appointed by the board in June.

Mr. Hatton's: home is in Vevay. He edited the college paper. last year, and is The resignations of Prof. Wellington B.

Johnson, of the chemistry- department, and of Prof. A. R. Stott, of the art department, were presented last June and accepted. Professor Johnson goes to Chattanooga.

Professor Stott retires on account of ill health. SuccessorS to neither have as yet been selected. Professor Stott will probably continue to- act temporarily, and the chemistry department will be in the temporary charge of tutors John Willtams and Omer Hougham. The former is -Phi Delta Theta and the latter an Independent. Professor Zeppenteldt, of the modern language department, who was out of school last spring on account of Illness, has returned work.

Miss Grace Stott, '94, will continue in charge of the library, to which a number of volumes have been added during vacation. Physical director W. G. Everson has been with the One-hundredand-fifty-eighth Indiana, but he will probably be back in time for the opening. Prospects for football are uncertain yet.

AT BARLHAM COLLEGE.
