This goes out to all of the vendor teams around the world who have been tirelessly working on their Gartner Magic Quadrant submissions over the past several weeks. CONGRATULATIONS! You survived it! Take a mental health day because you freaking deserve it! Getting an invitation to participate in a Quadrant is a huge win but deciding to participate after reading the criteria is a huge gamble. Vendors can’t guarantee where they’ll place and how the optics will look against their competitors. Most of the time, vendors put on their big-enterprise britches and jump in, letting the cards fall where they may. I fully support this approach as participation is a force-function for aligning narratives, examining gaps in the product or future releases and identifying where to shore up defenses. It’s the ultimate team-building experience but it’s also one of the most taxing things any vendor team can take part in.Teams that take on the challenge have to work in constant alignment, often across multiple time zones and while doing their normal heavy-lift day jobs. It takes a village to pull off answering the mega multi-part 113 question submission as well as producing a complete demo that meets Gartner’s exacting guidelines. If you have never been through the Quadrant process before, it’s very much a “be careful what you wish for” event.IYKYK. After many weeks of preparation, all submissions go in today and then everyone enters a waiting period. Go get some sleep.
